Pregnancy Photoshoot Mornington Peninsula: A Beautiful Guide to Maternity Photography
If you're looking for a pregnancy photoshoot on the Mornington Peninsula, we'd love to create something beautiful, natural and timeless for you.
There is something incredibly special about pregnancy. Your body is changing, your family is growing, and you are entering a completely new chapter of your life.
A pregnancy photoshoot is a beautiful way to pause and remember this moment before your baby arrives.
If you are looking for a pregnancy photoshoot on the Mornington Peninsula, you are in one of the most beautiful places in Victoria for maternity photography. From dramatic coastal cliffs and sandy beaches to quiet fields, rolling hills and golden sunsets, the Mornington Peninsula offers endless locations for natural, romantic and timeless maternity photographs.
At Perla Photography, we believe pregnancy photography should feel relaxed, natural and beautiful. Rather than creating stiff or overly posed photographs, our approach is about capturing the connection, emotion and anticipation of this incredibly special time.
One of our favourite things about photographing pregnancy outdoors is that every session looks different. The location, season, sunset and even the weather all become part of your story.
Whether you imagine yourself walking barefoot along the beach, standing in a flowing dress amongst the grass, cuddling your partner at sunset or including your older children in the photographs, your maternity session can be completely personal to you.
Why Have a Pregnancy Photoshoot?
Pregnancy can feel like it lasts forever while you are experiencing it, but once your baby arrives, this chapter can suddenly feel incredibly short.
Your pregnancy photographs give you the opportunity to remember not only what you looked like, but how you felt. The excitement; the anticipation; the connection between you and your partner; the little details of your growing bump; and the feeling of knowing that your family was about to change forever.
A maternity photoshoot is also about celebrating you. Pregnancy is an extraordinary experience, and you deserve photographs that make you feel beautiful, confident and proud of the woman you are becoming.
"When should I book my maternity photoshoot?"
For most women, we recommend scheduling a pregnancy photoshoot somewhere around 30 to 36 weeks of pregnancy. At this stage, your bump is generally beautifully visible while you may still feel comfortable enough to walk, move and enjoy your session.
However, there is no single perfect week for everyone. Every pregnancy is different. If you are expecting twins, feeling uncomfortable earlier, or simply want to photograph your pregnancy sooner, we can work with you to choose a time that feels right.
The Best Time of Day for Maternity Photography
For outdoor pregnancy photography on the Mornington Peninsula, we love photographing sessions in the late afternoon (around sunset) or early mornings. The softer light creates beautiful skin tones and a natural glow, while the lower sun can create gorgeous backlighting and warmth around your silhouette. This is particularly beautiful along the Peninsula's coastline. Rather than photographing in harsh midday sunlight, an evening/morning session allows us to take advantage of softer, more flattering natural light.
Should My Partner Be in the Pregnancy Photos?
Absolutely. While the focus of a maternity session is naturally on you and your beautiful bump, some of the most meaningful photographs are often the ones showing the connection between you and your partner: holding hands, walking together, a kiss on the forehead, your partner's hands resting gently on your bump; laughing together. These small interactions create photographs that tell the story of this chapter of your life.
We will also make sure there is plenty of time for beautiful portraits of you on your own.
Can My Children Be Included?
Yes. If this isn't your first baby, including your children can make the session even more meaningful. Your maternity photos can document the excitement of becoming a big brother or sister and capture the connection between your growing family.
We encourage children to simply be themselves rather than expecting them to pose perfectly. Some of our favourite family photographs come from the moments in between the planned photographs: cuddles, laughter, running around and little kisses on Mum's belly.
What Should I Wear for a Pregnancy Photoshoot?
Your outfit can make a big difference to the overall look and feel of your maternity photographs. For a timeless and elegant style, we generally recommend: flowing dresses, simple fabrics without large logos or distracting patterns, dresses that gently follow the shape of your bump.
However, the most important thing is that you feel comfortable and like yourself.
Do I Need to Know How to Pose?
Absolutely not. This is one of the biggest concerns we hear from people who have never had professional photographs taken before. You don't need to know what to do with your hands, where to stand or how to pose. That's our job. We will gently guide you throughout the session while allowing plenty of room for natural moments to happen. Rather than spending the entire session looking directly at the camera, we encourage movement and interaction.
The result is a collection of photographs that feel natural rather than overly staged.
What If I Don't Feel Confident During Pregnancy?
You are not alone. Pregnancy can be an amazing experience, but it can also change the way you feel about your body. Many women tell us before their session that they feel uncomfortable in front of the camera or aren't sure whether they will like photographs of themselves while pregnant.
Our approach is designed to make you feel comfortable. We use flattering natural light, gentle direction and angles that celebrate your pregnancy without making you feel like you have to perform for the camera.
You don't need to know how to pose. You simply need to arrive and enjoy this moment.
What Happens During a Mornington Peninsula Maternity Photoshoot?
Your session is relaxed and unhurried. We usually begin with some simple photographs to help everyone feel comfortable in front of the camera. From there, we move around the location, using different backgrounds and pockets of beautiful natural light.
If your partner or children are joining you, we will photograph a mixture of: individual maternity portraits, couple photographs, family photographs, natural interactions, close-up photographs of your bump, walking photographs, candid moments, and romantic portraits.
The goal is to create a complete collection rather than just a series of photographs where everyone is standing and looking at the camera.
Why Choose Perla Photography for Your Pregnancy Photoshoot?
At Perla Photography, our style is centred around timeless, light-filled and natural photography. We love beautiful locations, soft natural light and photographs that feel genuine rather than overly posed. Our approach is calm and guided, so you don't need previous experience in front of the camera. We want your photographs to still feel beautiful years from now.
Just you, your family and this extraordinary moment in your lives.
